About Burrwood Boards
Burrwood Boards was started by accident in 2011. Steph wanted a gift for “the man who had everything”, and was trying to find a rustic cheese board. It was one of those situations where you have an image in your head, but can’t find a product to match it, so eventually, Steph bought a piece of wood, and made a board herself in the garage. The gift was a great success, and Steph soon found she was being asked to make boards for other people. As happens occasionally, what started as a one off, slowly snowballed into a part-time occupation, and then into full time work, thence into Burrwood Boards which now has its’ own workshop and Steph has been joined by Simon, who came onboard a few years ago, after meeting Steph at a flying school, where Steph had worked as Operations manager, and Simon was Chief Helicopter instructor.
Steph is originally from Lynmouth, Devon, she moved to London in her early 20s and eventually out to Essex, where she had a number of jobs, as well as raising her family. Steph eventually hopes to return to Devon one day. Simon, moved around a lot as a child, before settling in Essex, where he has lived for long time. He had a back ground in customer service and steel fabrication, before, as part of a mid-life crisis, learning to fly helicopters, gaining his commercial pilots license, and instructors rating and teaching people to fly helicopters, before the aviation industry was affected by the most recent recession, and joining Steph at Burrwood Boards.
The name Burrwood Boards is made up by Simon, many trees have Burrs or Burls which are in effect deformities in the trees, but these deformities create wonderfully wild grain and colour
variations, which is just the sort of timber Burrwood like to use to make the weird and wonderful boards they specialise in. There is not actually a “Burrwood” as such, but burr oak, elm, sycamore etc, Steph and Simon travel many miles to source the right pieces of timber to turn into boards. All the timber Burrwood uses is sourced from managed forestry, to ensure the sustainability of our forests for future generations.

Went to the Chocolate Festival at the Islington design centre today and met lovely Steph of Burrwood Boards. Ended up buying the most gorgeous boards (4 between 3 of us!) but gotta say the love & attention put into making these boards clearly show and I for one can't wait to put mine into use at Christmas. Merry Christmas Steph

"I wanted something that reflected my frequent visits to St Lucia - an island which is very special to me so sent Stephanie a selection of objects - all of which have personal memories of my trips there. The resulting board is absolutely stunning and of very high quality. It is something my family will treasure. Thank you so much!"
Having previously bought a few Burrwoods boards, I have just ordered another board for friends as their wedding present! I can't wait to see it! Customer service is always fantastic - Thank you so much! I'll let you know when I've got it X
As a very happy customer, I cannot recommend these boards more highly, as beautiful pieces of handcrafted wonder! I contacted Steph as I wanted a custom-made board for my sister's wedding present, with champagne tops from the Big Day embedded into it. Steph was extremely patient with me, and presented me with several pieces of lovely English pithy oak, so that I got one which adhered to all my pernickety criteria, and which I was 100% happy with. I got instant sobbing from my sister when I presented her with this gift. Can't say better than that!
